Mount Etna volcano spews ash and lava into Sicily skies
Italy s famed Mount Etna volcano has erupted, spewing ash and lava hundreds of metres into the air.
The volcano, located on the east coast of Sicily, is one of the most active in the world and eruptions are frequent.
On Sunday two vents on its southeast side started shooting hot lava into the air in short, sharp bursts according to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (NIGV).

CATANIA, Italy - One of the world s most active volcanoes roared to life on Sunday.
Mount Etna, on the Italian island of Sicily, erupted into a beautiful orange glow in the dark overnight hours. The volcano sent out lava fountains onto its south slope and plumes of ash into the sky.
Boris Behncke, a volcanologist at Italy s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, shared a video showing lava flowing from on.

Mount Etna erupted at 9.20pm local time (8.20pm GMT) yesterday in the wake of a magnitude 2.7 earthquake. This earthquake was among 17 recorded in the area over the weekend, although it has not been confirmed whether the pair are linked. Mount Etna’s crater reportedly produced 100m-tall lava fountains on Sunday evening.
