U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Memphis will host a COVID-19 vaccine town hall on Monday with a slew of local and national health experts.
The event will last from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The congressman s office, in a news release, said the panel will be a frank discussion of vaccination efforts and the pandemic response.
The list of panelists includes:
Monica Webb Hooper, Deputy Director of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), National Institutes of Health;
James E. K. Hildreth, infectious disease expert and President of Meharry Medical College. Dr. Hildreth is on the President’s COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force and served on the FDA Advisory Panel that recommended the emergency use authorization of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines;

The work of advancing health equity isn t new – but more seamless data sharing has unlocked more potential to use information and analytics to work toward addressing disparities in care.
Panelists at the WEDI Quest for Health Equity event on Wednesday noted that it s important to reinforce the relationship between public health and medicine as advocates move forward in this work. In terms of interoperability, technology [and] data, there may be a new conversation, but it s important for us to incorporate some of that work that s been going on for many decades, said Kenyetta Jackson, health equity manager, health solutions, at the American Medical Association.

WASHINGTON (KSLA) - Two U.S. senators, one from Louisiana and one from Hawaii, have introduced a bill to the Senate that would increase investments in schools performing research into minority health disparities.
Senators Bill Cassidy, MD (R-La.) and Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) are behind the bill, which is called the John Lewis National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Endowment Revitalization Act. The Senate bill was introduced Feb. 12.
