NEW DELHI, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) The Indian government Tuesday said the new mutated strain of COVID-19 which was first found in Britain has not been seen in India so far.
The new strain of the virus has sparked concern worldwide, amid surging infection rates in Britain and fears the first lot of vaccines may not be as effective against the mutation. To the best of our knowledge, we are yet to spot such a virus in our country, for which there are intensive efforts in the offing. This virus increases transmissibility but doesn t increase propensity for deaths or hospitalisation or severity of the disease, V K Paul, a member of government think-tank National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog (commission) said.
