EEDC Warns against Fraudsters

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Plc (EEDC) has cautioned its customers against activities of unscrupulous individuals who are already taking advantage of the just commenced National Mass Metering Program (NMMP) to swindle unsuspecting customers of their money. EEDC in a statement, lamented that barely a week after the commencement of the free mass metering programme, the company have started receiving reports of customers who have been scammed in their bid to get metered quickly. The Disco had in a statement explained that the modalities for deployment of meters would be according to feeders and distribution substations, and that information on this will be made available to customers as the exercise progresses.

NMMP: Scammers defrauding customers - EEDC raises alarm

The warning was made over the weekend by the Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC, Emeka Ezeh. Ezeh lamented that barely a week after the commencement of the free mass metering programme of the Federal Government, the company had started receiving reports of customers who have been scammed in their bid to get metered quickly. It will be recalled that Ezeh in a statement issued last week explained that the modalities for deployment of meters will be according to feeders and distribution substations, and that information on this will be made available to customers as the exercise progresses. Ezeh said that about 400 customers have so far been metered in less than two weeks of the commencement of the metering exercise and appealed to customers to be patient as the metering programme which comes at no cost will definitely get to all customers.

Ibadan DisCo Distributes 104,000 Meters in Nigeria

Introduced by President Muhammadu Buhari last August, the Program aims to distribute six million meters across the country, in an effort to boost the national metering rate and do away with arbitrary estimated billing. One million meters have been distributed as part of the first rollout. “We are here to launch the National Mass Metering for the Federal Government. These are free meters, so customers are not paying for it. The essence is to discourage estimated billing that a lot of customers have been complaining about,” said Ayo Adio, Head of Customer Support, IBEDC. “We believe that within a few weeks, most of the customers that are designated for meters will have them installed in their premises.”
