nhai: NHAI files papers with Sebi for InvIT; plans to raise Rs 5,100 crore

NEW DELHI: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Monday filed draft papers with markets regulator Sebi for floating an Infrastructure Investment Trust (InVIT) through which it seeks to raise Rs 5,100 crore. InvITs are instruments on the pattern of mutual funds and are designed to pool small sums of money from a number of investors to invest in assets that give cash flow over a period of time. NHAI plans to mop up total of Rs 5,100 crore through fresh issue, as per the draft papers filed with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi). In addition, there would be an offer-for-sale (OFS). However, the OFS amount has not been specified in the draft papers.

Bus owners in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have been complaining against the ‘hefty’ toll for all buses, including those plying on village roads. Soon after making FASTag mandatory, the toll authorities at Hejmady have stopped the concession given for such buses. Canara Bus Operators’ Association vice-president Durgaprasad Hegde told TOI that bus service will remain suspended till the toll authorities restore concession. “All shuttle service buses, including those on Mangaluru -Udupi route, that cross the Hejmady toll gate will remain suspended. In the last few weeks, farmers and locals have staged protests, demanding a toll-free service road in the area. Anand Kumar, a resident of Devanahalli, explained, “It is an unfair deal for people who live around the area and have to cross the toll multiple times, even for short distances. We need a toll-free option and hence we are demanding a service road here.”
