HUBBALLI: The Supreme Court’s committee on road safety has taken note of a recent accident involving a minibus and a tipper on a bypass road at Itigatti, near Dharwad. It has issued a notice to the Karnataka transport department and sought a report on the incident, which claimed 11 lives. The report must list steps to prevent such collisions and statistics of mishaps and fatalities recorded on the 32-km road in the past two years.
The transport department has been reportedly asked to submit the report by February 15. This is the first time in recent years that it has received a notice from a court panel over a road accident.

Addressing the 40th Meeting of Transport Development Council last evening, Gadkari who is the minister of road transport and highways said that states must increasingly adopt the alternative fuels in the operation of buses and stressed the use of CNG, LNG, electric vehicles and ethanol blended fuels.
