The Hays County Commissioners Court meets on Tuesday with a packed agenda. Upon its extensive list of topics, the court is scheduled to continue the discussion and take possible action regarding Hays County s multi-year Improvement Grant Program application to the Texas Indigent Defense Commission (TIDC) for public defender services.
Previously, the commissioners court unanimously voted to pursue the grant in order to fund a three-pronged justice system reform including a Pretrial Services Department, Public Defender Office and a Managed Assigned Counsel program.
In April, Hays County submitted the grant application to the TIDC. Since then, the county has not been awarded any funds at this time.

The Department of Public Health and Social Services will hold a three-day back-to-school walk-up immunization clinic in recognition of National Immunization Awareness Month.
The clinic is for students ages 4 to 18 who are uninsured, or covered under Medicaid or the Medically Indigent Program, according to a news release.
It will be held at the University of Guam Calvo Field House from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or while supplies last, July 29-31.
Parents and participants must provide updated shot records to participate, the release stated. The varicella vaccine (also known as chickenpox vaccine), PPD skin tests (tuberculosis test) and physical exams wonât be offered. Students with private health care insurance coverage arenât eligible to participate.

SAN ANTONIO San Antonio s Metro Health has a new leader. Claude Jacob is two weeks into the job and comes to San Antonio in the middle of a pandemic.
Jacob, a married father of three, comes to the Lone Star State from Massachusetts. He has over 20 years of experience in public health. He brings his experience in New England here to San Antonio, and says the strategy to fight COVID here, is largely the same from up north.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) â Joint Government Operations Committee Chairmen Kerry Roberts (R-Springfield) and John Ragan (R-Oak Ridge) discussed vaccination efforts Wednesday in the Rule Review Committee concerning the Department of Health.
Chairman Kerry Roberts read the statement saying, the two main concerns for some committee members were that the COVID-19 vaccine, was being marketed to minors and administered without parental consent.
