50,000th visitor since March 25 reopening – Seychelles on track to achieve 2021 tourism arrival targets Published: 13 July 2021
There is much to celebrate in the Seychelles islands this July. Not only is Seychelles commemorating the 50th anniversary of the opening of its international airport welcoming its first commercial flight, which in July 1971 launched the Indian Ocean archipelago’s tourism industry, but it also welcomed on that same day in 2021, the 50,000th visitor since the bold decision on March 25 to open the country up to all visitors vaccinated or not.
The impact of the pandemic had been immediate and catastrophic for the tourism-dependent economy of the island nation which saw visitor arrivals plummet to a low of 22 visitors in April of last year compared to a bumper 37,103 in April 2019, traditionally the second-highest month of the year for tourist arrivals. For Wang Huaiying, the elders in her home village cared a lot about having a male heir. Families she grew up around would often have three or four children in the hope of getting a boy, even during the days of China’s one-child policy.
Born and raised in the countryside of Linyi, in eastern China’s Shandong province, the 35-year-old just had her third child , a boy.
