iStock A 23-year-old man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for raping a 14-year-old girl in a veld in Pampierstad in the Northern Cape in March 2019. According to police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien, Kobus Julies threatened the girl on 12 March 2019 when she was walking home from Pampierstad. He grabbed her and threatened her with a knife before forcing her to undress in the veld. He then raped her and fled the scene. On 30 March 2019, the victim spotted Julies at Pampierstad Mountain View and alerted the investigating officer Constable Edwin Thabapelo, who arrested him. Julies escaped from lawful custody but was rearrested on the same day.

iStock A Northern Cape rapist was sentenced to life behind bars on Wednesday. He raped two women and robbed them of their cellphones and money in 2012 and 2013. Both victims were pregnant at the time. A Northern Cape man received a life sentence plus 26 years for rape and robbery in the Kuruman Regional Court on Wednesday. Tshepiso Godfrey Oliphant, 32, was found guilty of raping two women in 2012 and 2013 and robbing them of their cellphones and money, said police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien. Both victims were pregnant at the time of the rapes. The first rape occurred on 14 December 2012, when the 18-year-old victim was lured by Oliphant to Promise Land in Mothibistad. He took her to an open field and raped her twice. He also robbed her of her cellphone valued at R2 000, as well as money. He left her and fled the scene. The victim was able to report the incident and received medical treatment.
