Bromsgrove student mental health organisation up for awards

Hannah Walton left school at 14 which she has turned into something positive to help others. A student mental health organisation, which was set up by a 21-year-old from Bromsgrove has been nominated for a series of awards. Hannah Walton started ‘One/Third Project’ after suffering from mental issues for most of her life and leaving school at the age of 14. The project which launched in January is currently up for two awards: ‘Project of the Year’ with the Mental Health Blog Awards and ‘Community Organisation’ with the National Diversity Awards. Hannah is also up for some awards separate to the project due to her work with young people and around mental health. These include ‘Positive Role Model’ at National Diversity Awards, ‘Community Unsung She-ro’ at MBCC Awards West Midlands and ‘Outstanding Women with Community Impact’ West Midlands Women’s Awards.

CELEBRATE: UHMBT celebrates Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Week EQUALITY, Diversity and Human Rights Week is being celebrated at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT). Beginning on May 10 until 14, the conference will take place online and be opened by Aaron Cummins, Chief Executive of UHMBT with main speakers being Dr Sakthi Karunanithi, Director of Public Health for Lancashire County Council and Paul Deemer, Head of Diversity at NHS Employers. UHMBT’s ‘People Strategy’ aims to create ‘A Great Place to Work and a Great Place to be Cared For’. Hannah Chandisingh, Transformation Lead for Race Equality at UHMBT, said: “The last year has been a busy time for us all so Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Week is a great opportunity for us to come together and celebrate some of the successes we have had during a tough year.

Help see Workington Finches RUFC win National Diversity Award

It s time to show your support for one brilliant club, as the group is nominated for a national award. For the second year running, Workington s Zebra Finches Women s RUFC has been nominated for a National Diversity Award. And the lovely news couldn t come at a better time for the club, after a year of minimal training and halted plans due to the pandemic. It s little things like this that keep the girls going when times are a bit tough, team captain, Charlotte Cammack, said. It means a lot to be recognised for what we do, and we just always want to get as many women involved with the club as possible – even if people don t want to play, there s something for everyone to do.

Pageant queen is positive role model in National Diversity Awards

A pageant queen has been nominated for being a positive role model in the National Diversity Awards. Kathryn Ozmaya, from Warrington town centre, has supported several charities over the past few years, raising funds and collecting much-needed essential items, especially during lockdown. The 54-year-old has been involved in charity-focused pageantry since 2017 and was named Miss United Kingdom Rose Overall Charity winner in 2019 after collecting £1,500 for MIND and Rosemere Cancer Centre. The working mum-of-three suffers from chronic arthritis and hip dysplasia and also has degenerative disc disease but she is determined to help others in need. Over the past two years, Kathryn has supported Steps Worldwide, which is a Lymm-based charity that helps children and young people with lower limb conditions.

Parents hope to secure parliamentary debate on Tourette s syndrome

PARENTS pleading for more support for children with Tourette’s syndrome have received a Government response – but have set their sights on securing a parliamentary debate. Tourette’s syndrome is a condition that causes a person to make involuntary sounds and movements called tics. Unfortunately, there is no cure for it but treatment can help to manage symptoms. Mum-of-two Emma McNally, from St Helens, set up an online petition to Parliament and Government calling for an increase in funding to provide support and research into Tourette’s. It now has more than 12,750 signatures. Emma’s son, aged 13, has Tourette’s syndrome.
