When I presented the Budget 2020-21, we could not have imagined that the global economy, already in throes of a slowdown, would be pushed into an unprecedented contraction.
We could not have also imagined then that our people as those in other countries would have to endure the loss of near and dear ones and suffer hardships brought about due to a health crisis.

NEW DELHI: To enhance opportunities for youth, the government on Monday proposed to amend the Apprenticeship Act and realign the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme for post-education apprenticeship, training of graduates and diploma holders in engineering.
Presenting the Budget for 2021-22 in Parliament, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said over Rs 3,000 crore will be set aside for this purpose. In 2016, we had launched the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme. The government proposes to amend the Apprenticeship Act with a view to further enhancing apprenticeship opportunities for our youth, Sitharaman said.

Udupi, Jan 15: Even amidst the COVID scare hundreds of devotees thronged to pull and witness the three Chariot Car Festival celebrated in a grand manner in this temple town on Thursday night on the occasion of the Makar Sankranti , the year s first festival, officials reported on Friday.
