Carmel High School quietly removed Ray Lawrence, a longtime and lauded swimming coach who was banned from USA Swimming in 2011, from its athletics hall of fame.
At the time of the ban a decade ago, USA Swimming gave IndyStar no specifics on the reason but said Lawrence was banned for life for violations that occurred before the current Code of Conduct, which started in the late 1990s.
Lawrence was the swim coach at Carmel from 1979 to 1994.
Currently, the USA Swimming s online list of banned and permanently ineligible individuals, says he was banned from USA Swimming on March 8, 2011 due to sexual misconduct.

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri, who led the Tigers to the 2009 national championship and is No. 1 among active NCAA Division I coaches in career victories, announced Friday that he will retire at the end of the 2021 season.
Mainieri, whose collegiate career spans 39 seasons – including the past 15 years at LSU – will coach the Tigers in the 2021 NCAA Tournament should they receive a berth in the 64-team field.
