Five years ago, former Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley infamously said the state’s education system “sucks” as test scores in math sank near the bottom nationwide.
In 2019, the scores did just that: The National Assessment of Educational Progress – otherwise known as the nation’s report card, released every two years placed eighth and fourth grade students in Alabama dead last in testing for mathematics.
