Ashanti Business, Financial Services Excellence Awards dinner held

Graphic Online BY: News Desk Report 705 The 17th Ashanti Business and Financial Services Excellence Awards and the 6th Ashanti Business Leaders Excellence Awards, have been organised jointly in Kumasi under the auspices of the Manhyia Palace. The ceremony, which was organised recently, honoured business entities, financial institutions and captains of business and industry who were deemed to have made outstanding contributions to the economic development of Ashanti. According to Mr Isaac Dakwa, Director of Top Brass Ghana, organisers of the awards, the occasion also was in commemoration of the 70th Birthday of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene. The Vice-Chancellor of the Kumasi Technical University, Prof. Osei-Wusu Achaw, chaired the ceremony.

More than 15,200 MSMEs benefit from NBSSI COVID-19 recovery programme

705 More than 15,228 beneficiaries have received support both in grants and loans from the NBSSI/ Mastercard Foundation COVID-19 Recovery and Resilience Programme (Nkosuo). The programme forms part of a partnership between the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) and the Mastercard Foundation and focuses on supporting MSMEs and start-ups in sectors such as Agriculture and Agro-businesses, Water and Sanitation, and Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals. Other sectors are Garment and Personal Protective Equipment, the Creative Arts Industry, Manufacturing, Food and Beverage, among other things, to recover from the economic shock of the pandemic. Those who received amounts not exceeding GH¢2,000 are food vendors, barbers, beauticians and dressmakers.

AGA growing local economy through an annual trade fair

Graphic Online BY: Daniel Kenu 705 Mining giant, AngloGold Ashanti (AGA), has rolled out a deliberate policy to grow the Obuasi local economy through the promotion of made-in-Ghana goods, exhibiting same and creating job. It is under the company s Social Management Plan policy . The exhibition, which was the third in the series was under the theme: Diversifying the economy of Obuasi through trade promotion. The six-day trade fair was organised in collaboration with the Obuasi East District Assembly, Obuasi Municipal Assembly and the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) facilitated the organisation. As the theme suggests, the fair focused more on other sectors rather than the mines as it pushes for diversifying the local economy.
