Clarkson University Professor of Education Catherine Snyder has been named to the Board of Directors for the national accreditation agency: Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP).
The AAQEP was founded in 2017. It is a membership organization and quality assurance agency that provides accreditation services and formative support to all types of educator preparation providers. The AAQEP’s mission is to promote and recognize quality educator preparation that strengthens the education profession’s ability to serve all students, schools, and communities, and to do so equitably.
Snyder is the chair of the Department of Education and the Associate Director of the Institute for STEM Education at Clarkson University’s Capital Region Campus. Dr. Snyder has been with Clarkson for 15 years, after a career teaching at the secondary level. She has taught students ranging from middle school to graduate school in the US and

Teresa Brown, a kindergarten teacher from Nicholas County, has earned West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s Above and Beyond Award, which recognizes excellence and creativity in and out of the classroom.
Brown was presented the award this week at Gauley River Elementary in Craigsville, West Virginia. She actually won the award in December, but holidays, inclement weather and COVID-19 precautions delayed the presentation. She received a monetary award, our signature Blenko Above and Beyond blue apple paperweight, a certificate of recognition, and a host of other special gifts made possible by the sponsorship of Advantage Technology.
Superintendent of Floyd County Schools, Danny Adkins, congratulates South Floyd Elementary School’s Stephanie Lawson as the county’s newest National Board Certified Teacher.
Superintendent Adkins comments, “Congratulations Mrs. Stephanie Lawson! We are very proud of Stephanie for attaining this prestigious certification. We’re also proud of her level of commitment to her students and to her profession, especially as she has attained this in part during a pandemic. It’s an arduous process during normal school circumstances and we are quite simply impressed that she was able to complete her certification at this time in our world.”
National Board Certification for teachers consists of written assessment of content knowledge, reflection on student work samples, video and analysis of teaching practice, and documented impact and accomplishments as a teaching professional. Teachers have up to three years to complete this process.
Ashdown Public School Teacher Becomes National Board Certified
Congratulations to Ashdown Gifted and Talented Coordinator Emily Freeman on becoming a National Board Certified Teacher. Mrs. Freeman is responsible for all GT students at Ashdown Public Schools.
She schedules and plans all classroom activities plus guides Chess and Quiz Bowl Teams. She is also a member of the local Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher Sorority and serves as treasurer, AGATE (Arkansans for Gifted & Talented Education), AAGEA (Arkansas Association of Gifted Education Administrators), ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education).
