Ekiti to have regular power supply soon – Fayemi

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi on Tuesday assured the people of the state of adequate and uninterrupted power supply before the end of his administration.
Fayemi, who lamented the poor power supply to the State by Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), said his administration has concluded plans with the Federal Government to build two 132/133 kva substations in Ekiti to boost electricity generation and transmission in the state.
He added that plans are also being concluded on a new Independent Power Project (IPP) initiative aimed at repositioning the sector for effective service delivery.

He, however, assured the people of the state that his administration has put all machinery in place to ensure adequate and uninterrupted power supply to the state before the end of his administration next year.

Speaking on the concerns of rising electrical accidents in Nigeria, Mr Nagode said, “We were with NERC recently and NERC is equally concerned because of the level of accidents.”
He said NERC is working to ensure that operators of the private-led power firms adopted NAPTIN safety syllabus for training.
Another collaboration of the institute with NERC, the power sector regulator, is on metering which Nagode said NAPTIN was enabled to ensure the training of all meter installers.
The DG said NAPTIN trains power sector workers and fresh electrical and mechanical engineering graduates under the National Graduate Skills Development Programme (NGSDP).

The office of the Auditor General of the Federation (oAuGF) in its 2018 audit query indicted Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among others of awarding contracts and irregular payments/expenditures worth N41.857 billion and $68,875,902 illegal fund disbursed to distressed Nigerian Missions in contravention of extant financial regulations.
The details were contained in the 2018 audit report submitted to the Senate and House of Representatives’ Committee on Public Accounts for further legislative action.
