The proposal would allow tenants who have had a rental contract since at least December 31, 2020 to purchase council housing at only 30 percent of the property s market value. An additional 1 percent discount would be added for every year the tenant has been in the property up to 15 years, meaning some tenants could pay only 15 percent of market value.
Further, those who can purchase the property in a single payment must only pay 70 percent of the discounted price, giving some tenants the opportunity to purchase apartments for 10.5 percent of their market value.

Academic freedom is one of the less discussed dimensions of freedom of expression, in comparison to press freedom and freedom of internet users. However, it has recently been thrust into public debate across Asia. As autocracy strengthens across the region, academic freedoms concurrently have deteriorated.

In Southeast Asia, for example Thailand, the challenge to academic freedom comes from the ultra-conservative elements in society. Royalists and other conservative groups are acting as vigilantes, attacking some academics and students, who express views perceived as anti-monarchy. As a result, academic work and activities are monitored and these groups lobby universities and higher education authorities to discipline or even expel students and staff.

A court in Hong Kong last week had convicted four pro-democracy activists, including Wong, for taking part in a memorial ceremony commemorating the Tiananmen Square massacre victims, the South China Morning Post reported.
Wong is already serving a 13.5-month jail term in prison for taking part in a protest that took place outside a police station in June 2019.

Hong Kong, April 30 (ANI): A court in Hong Kong has convicted four pro-democracy activists, including Joshua Wong, for taking part in a memorial ceremony commemorating the Tiananmen Square massacre victims.
These four are among 24 people facing the charges for participating in a vigil on June 4 last year, when residents defied a government ban on gathering in public and flocked to Victoria Park to commemorate the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown, NHK World reported.
The Japanese broadcaster had said Hong Kong police refused permission for the event, citing efforts to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
