A WALL incorporating an 18th century water supply point and seafront sheltered seating are among the new sites added to Historic England s Grade II list this year. Several sites across the region have been added to the National Heritage List for England in the past 12-months and Historic England is celebrating their new protection. Among the new entries is a 220-year-old lamp-post in Richmond which is a very early example of public street lighting. It is an elegant wrought iron structure positioned on a wall at the junction of Bargate and Cornforth, near the town centre. Originally, its lamp, which is no longer present, was fuelled by oil, but in 1830 it was converted to gas following the establishment of the Richmond Gasworks in 1821.
