Work to bring fast internet access to broadband blackspots in rural Laois is continuing, the National Broadband Ireland company has stated this week.
Some €49 million will be spent creating the new high-speed fibre broadband network in Laois alone, as part of National Broadband Ireland s contract to roll it out nationwide under the Government’s National Broadband Plan
It announced this week that surveying works in several areas of Laois are well underway. In Laois, there are 12,510 premises in the Intervention Area (IA), which includes homes, farms, commercial businesses and schools. This equates to 31% of all premises in the county. The following areas in Laois are being surveyed: Ballylinan, Lackeragh, Castlewood, Killeen, Glosna, Wolfhill, Knocklaide, Luggacurren, Ballintubbert, Knockbawn, Stradbally, and Vicarstown.
Question
I have great fibre broadband in the country area where we live. But we are in a large house and we have concrete floors between upstairs and downstairs. The router is downstairs. I am trying to get better Wi-Fi coverage around the house but the concrete floors limit this. I have tried boosters such as TP-Link and, although it’s OK, the Wi-Fi speed is still significantly reduced. I have two ‘Cat 5’ cables running upstairs from the router, so is there any solution that I can go for that will enable me to have a home Wi-Fi hub around the house?

Clare’s Independent TD is calling for the fast tracking of the National Broadband Plan in early 2021.
In Clare, only homes in some of the communities closest to Limerick City are scheduled for connection early next year.
A number of broadband access points are being rolled out elsewhere while a number of schools – including in Ennistymon and Stonehall – have already been connected by National Broadband Ireland, with more of those to come online over the coming years.

CLARITY on when National Broadband Ireland (NBI) will roll out services across Clare is urgently needed, so that people can make decisions around career and college options, a local authority briefing was told this week.
The view was expressed by Councillor Pat Hayes when officials of NBI made a virtual presentation to local authority members to outline current and future progress with the delivery of high-speed broadband to parts of Clare who currently have little to no access.
