A coalition of trade bodies has written to Congress in opposition of a bill that allows the United States Postal Service to ship alcoholic drinks as it is “not safe or responsible”.

The letter is in opposition to elements of the United States Postal Service Shipping Equity Act, and has been signed by the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA), American Beverage Licensees (ABL), American Distilled Spirits Alliance (ADSA) and National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA).

Austin beer distributors learn how to help fight human trafficking
Thanks to a statewide initiative that has since gone national, beer distributors are being trained on how to spot signs of human trafficking.
AUSTIN, Texas - Beer distributors spend hours on the road, delivering beer to bars and convenience stores and parking at truck stops to fill their gas tank or use the bathroom.
Their eyes and ears are in the right places to spot something that’s not right. Specifically, much of their time is spent at locations where sex trafficking or forced labor may be taking place.

A few years ago, Bart Watson, the chief economist for the Brewers Association, decided to stage a craft beer tasting for the residents of his grandmother’s retirement community. Many tried an IPA for the first time and, as Watson recalls, “were kind of shocked that anybody would make a beer that bitter.” Yet one man loved it. “He told me, ‘It’s the best beer I’ve ever tasted. I’m going to buy a six-pack.’”
The experience revealed a valuable lesson: While many assume older drinkers become set in their ways as they age, there are many consumers over 50 who are open to new experiences if the industry makes the effort to educate and recruit them, believes Watson.
