BEFORE THE PANDEMIC, only around one in seven employees in Ireland worked from home in some formal capacity – either usually or all of the time.
An ESRI study found that working from home was “not a common feature of employment” in Ireland up to 2019.
Of those who did work from home some or most of the time, couples with children were more likely to remote work than lone parents.

The Citizens Assembly has recommended that Article 41.2 of the Constitution - the so-called women s place in the home clause - be deleted and replaced.
It is one of 45 recommendations on Gender Equality announced today that will be sent to Government.
Due to Covid-19, this is the first Citizens Assembly which has done most of its work online.
Ninety-nine citizens from around the country, led by Chairperson Dr Catherine Day, were asked to consider all aspects of gender equality in Ireland.
Following their work online over the past year, the assembly has published agreed recommendations.
They include deleting and replacing the so-called women s place in the home clause , Article 41.2 of the Constitution with language that is not gender specific - obliging the State to take reasonable measures to support care within the home and wider community.

Minister for Health announces funding for ambulatory gynaecology services and enhanced endometriosis service under the Womenâs Health Fund
The Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly TD, has announced details of two areas to be funded under the recently established â¬5 million Womenâs Health Fund:
two community-based Ambulatory Gynaecology Services governed by two acute hospitals (Tallaght University Hospital, and University Maternity Hospital Limerick)
expansion of the endometriosis service at Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) to deliver a specialist endometriosis centre for the management and treatment of all forms of endometriosis, with particular focus on advanced and complex cases for which there is no ready access in Ireland

40% of workers aged between 20 and 69 have no occupational pension coverage other than the state pension, according to Age Action.
Addressing a Pensions Commission webinar, Age Action Senior Public Affairs and Policy Specialist Dr Nat O Connor noted that in certain sectors of the economy, a majority of employers do not offer a company pension scheme.
As a result, more than one in ten older people were at risk of poverty, while more than one in every nine experiences material deprivation.
He said lower paid workers were particularly vulnerable to being unable to save for retirement beyond the state pension.
