News Analysis: Tigray Interim Agriculture & Development bureau head warns against looming starvation in the years to come By Medihane Ekubamichael Addis Abeba, April 27, 2021 – Addressing humanitarian needs in Tigray has been a top agenda for many followers of the crisis. International as well as local humanitarian aid providers raised  their concerns soon after the onset of the armed conflict in Tigray region. The humanitarian crisis, since then has been escalating along with access and logistic difficulties in connection to the security situation. The magnitude of the humanitarian crisis in its highest level was first acknowledged by Abraha Desta, Arena Tigray Party Chairperson who served as the Interim Administration’s social Affairs Bureau, mentioning that the scale of the danger could be “unprecedented in the region’s history” and that 4.5 million people were in need of immediate aid.

Over 1 Million People Displaced due to Conflict in Northern Ethiopia: IOM DTM Format Addis Ababa  Over 1 million people are displaced across 178 accessible locations in Ethiopia s Tigray region and neighbouring Afar and Amhara, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM). This data was collected through a monthly Emergency Site Assessment (ESA) which has been in place since the conflict in Northern Ethiopia erupted in November 2020. The assessment, conducted from 02 March to 23 March, revealed that there are some 1,000,052 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Tigray region, another 45,343 in Afar region and 18,781 in Amhara region. The data suggests that IDPs are fleeing to towns and cities to seek humanitarian assistance and gain access to essential services. It is the fourth such assessment conducted by IOM in the area.

U S delivers emergency shelter for Ethiopians displaced in Tigray – New Business Ethiopia

Spread the love The United States handed over 1,500 rolls of heavy-duty plastic sheeting to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The sheeting distributed over the weekend is expected to support U.S. efforts to provide emergency shelter for tens of thousands of Ethiopians displaced by the ongoing conflict in the Tigray region, according to the press statement from the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. U.S. Ambassador Geeta Pasi handed the shelter supplies over to IOM Chief of Mission Maureen Achieng and Deputy Commissioner Yasin Nesibu from Ethiopia’s National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC) at a warehouse in Addis Ababa.
