Karnataka: Flood victims continue to wait for compensation | Hubballi News

Kamalavva Kolkar, yet another victim of the flood in Kittur village in Haveri, said her house was damaged extensively in the calamity HAVERI: It has been three months since the floods wreaked havoc with the lives of the people of several districts of Karnataka. Unfortunately, the lapse of time has done little to ease the pain of those who bore the brunt of the natural calamity. As many as 13,500 families that suffered nature’s fury continue to wait for the first installment of the compensation due to them from the government. The apathetic attitude of the state government towards the plight of the victims is illustrated by the fact that less than a tenth of the funds allocated to Karnataka under the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) has been distributed – only Rs 3.2 crore of the Rs 35.5 crore corpus has been disbursed to victims in five districts, while those in eight other districts have not been compensated for their loss.
