Greece Confirms 2,107 New COVID-19 Cases on Thursday, 10 Deaths

Athens News Agency ATHENS Greece confirmed 2,107 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, with 5 of these identified at entry points to the country, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) reported on Thursday. Greece has confirmed 433,021 infections from the start of the pandemic (daily change: +0.5 pct). In the confirmed cases of the last 7 days, 146 infections are related to travel from abroad and 1,796 to other confirmed cases. There are also 10 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total of pandemic victims to 12,773. Of these, 95.2 pct had an underlying condition and/or were 70 years old. A total of 153 patients are on ventilators in hospitals. Their median age is 66 years and 88.2 pct have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or more. Another 2,720 have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.

Greece -Gov t clamps down on outdoor venues to control cluster infections by younger people

Food places, bars, clubs and entertainment venues will only allow seated customers as of Thursday, the government said on Tuesday, in an effort to control spiking rates of coronavirus infections driven by crowding by younger people. Deputy Minister for Civil Protection & Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias said in a short emergency briefing that the average age of new coronavirus infections in the last 10 days is down to 27. Citing National Public Health Organization (EODY) statistics, he said that the rate of clusters of infection had risen as well, while 32 percent of people with recorded infections mentioned an outdoor assembly as possible source of exposure to the coronavirus. In addition, hundreds of infections recorded in the last few days appear to be traced to entertainment venues.
