Greece: Stubbornly high numbers of new Covid cases and ICU patients

Covid’s third wave in Greece is showing its full force with yet another 2,801 new coronavirus infections registered in the 24 hours to Saturday. The National Public Health Organization (EODY) reported that only 4 of these were identified at entry points to the country. For the past 7-day period, 83 infections are related to travel from abroad and 3,003 to other confirmed cases. There were also 75 deaths reported on Saturday, bringing the total of pandemic victims to 8,833. Of these, 95.6 per cent had an underlying condition and/or were 70 years old. As of latest available data, a total of 781 patients are on ventilators in hospitals, with a median age of 68 years, while Greek authorities announced a further 504 new Covid-19 hospitalisations were registered.

Greece registered 2,747 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, with 9 of these identified at entry points to the country, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) reported on Friday. Greece has confirmed 290,964 infections from the start of the pandemic (daily change: +1 pct). In the confirmed cases of the last 7 days, 99 infections are related to travel from abroad and 2,978 to other confirmed cases. There are also 78 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total of pandemic victims to 8,758. Of these, 95.7 pct had an underlying condition and/or were 70 years old. A total of 790 patients are on ventilators in hospitals. Their median age is 67 years and 82.4 pct have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or more. Another 1,839 have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.

Greece has confirmed 285,015 infections from the start of the pandemic (daily change: +1.2 pct). In the confirmed cases of the last 7 days, 94 infections are related to travel from abroad and 2,711 to other confirmed cases. Rt spreadability rate is assessed at 0.96 (95 pct Crl: 0.4-1.54).
