Coronavirus Cases Skyrocket in Greece with 1,261 on Tuesday

Transmission of the coronavirus has surged in Greece, as the country recorded a stunning 1,261 cases on Tuesday, which represents 718 more than the 543 cases that were diagnosed in the country one day earlier, on Monday.
Tragically, 22 people with the virus passed away in the country over the past 24-hour period, which is 11 fewer than those recorded yesterday.
Currently, 244 patients with Covid-19 are now intubated in Greece, four fewer than those who were intubated in the country on Monday.
The incredible rise in cases in the country comes as transmission of the virus has increased by approximately 40% in Attica, home to Athens, the Greek capital.

BERLIN Germany’s health minister wants to press ahead with securing coronavirus vaccine supplies for 2022, preferably at the European Union level but if necessary nationally.
Jens Spahn said Monday that it’s important to secure production capacity in Germany and Europe in advance. He said it’s not yet clear whether or when booster vaccinations will be required, or whether vaccines will need to be adapted to new virus mutations.
He spoke at a videoconference in which German-based pharmaceutical giant Bayer, which last month announced it was linking up with German company CureVac to help develop and distribute that firm’s prospective COVID-19 vaccine, said it will help produce the vaccine.

Athens, Feb 1 : Greek authorities announced that the first case of the mutated coronavirus strain detected in South Africa was diagnosed in Thessaloniki city in northern Greece.
The patient who tested positive for this strain is an official with the Greek Orthodox Christian Church, said Nikos Hardalias, Deputy Minister for Civil Protection and Crisis Management, Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday. We are conducting sweeping screening tests, with molecular tests and rapid tests, in the wider area. There is no reason to panic, he told Greek national broadcaster ERT.
