By 2025, metro train services will be expanded to over 25 cities across the country, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi while adding that Make In India is essential for the expansion. The first metro in the country was started with the efforts of Atal Ji. When our government was formed in 2014, only five cities had metro services and today 18 cities have metro rail service. By 2025, we will take this service to more than 25 cities, said PM Modi. Make In India is very important for the expansion of metro services. It reduces cost, saves foreign currency and provides more employment to people, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated full-time operations of driverless trains on the Delhi Metro-Magenta Line on Monday. Highlighting his association with this project, Modi said, “I had the privilege of inaugurating the Magenta Line about three years ago. Today again, on this route, the country s first-fully automated metro is being inaugurated.” Trial runs for driverless trains had begun in May 2016, for which 14 high-tech trains were ferried from South Korea. There was a mishap during the trial on December 20, 2017 when one of the trains crashed through a wall. It was later concluded that there was human error that led to the minor accident while the train was being taken for a wash.
Delhi is the capital of a big economic and strategic power of more than 130 crore people. Its grandeur should be evident here, PM Modi said.
He said the government has incentivised electric mobility by giving tax rebates in Delhi, adding that the city s old infrastructure is also being transformed with the help of modern technology. This thinking is reflected in provision of better living conditions to slum dwellers through regularisation of hundreds of colonies and in turning old government building into environment friendly modern structures, Modi said.
The prime minister stressed that since Delhi is an old tourist destination, work is going on to develop 21st century attractions in the city.
