Vanguard News Ikpeazu lifts ban on activities of NURTW in Abia On Okezie Ikpeazu Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia has lifted the proscription placed on the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state. Ikpeazu made this known on Tuesday when members of the National Executive Council of the union paid him a visit at the Government House, Umuahia. The governor said that the decision to lift the ban was informed by steps taken by the national leadership of the union to call its members to order. He said that he had accepted the apology tendered by the union, adding that the state government and NURTW ought to be partners in progress.

Punch Newspapers Sections Edward Nnachi, Abakaliki The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested the Chairman of the Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Clement Odah, and the member representing Ohaukwu North State Constituency, Mr Chinedu Awo, in connection with the recent killings and destruction of property in Effium and Ezza Effium communities. This was just as residents told journalists that the death toll was now above 40. Although there was no official confirmation about the number of deaths, reliable sources in the communities told our correspondent on Sunday that the death toll had risen astronomically. A former Secretary to the State Government, Prof.  Bernard Odoh, said in a statement that the death toll had risen to over 40, adding that he would challenge anybody or authority that says otherwise.
