Sriwijaya Air Passenger Aircraft Loses Contact after Taking Off Saturday, 09 January 2021 | 17:53 WIB Sriwijaya Air Passenger Aircraft Loses Contact after Taking Off (wikimedia) JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - A passenger aircraft operated by Indonesian airline company Sriwijaya Air flying from Jakarta to Pontianak has reportedly lost contact with air traffic control on Saturday (01/09/2021). The last contact with the aircraft, flight number SJ182, was recorded at 14:40 Indonesian Western Time. Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation Aditia Irawati has confirmed the report. The Ministry of Transportation is coordinating with the National SAR Agency and the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) regarding the incident.

Sriwijaya Air Flight 182 lost contact at 2:40 p.m. local time (2:40 a.m. ET), roughly four minutes after takeoff from Jakarta on its way to Pontianak, a city on the island of Borneo, said Indonesia s Transportation Ministry. The Boeing 737-524 had 43 adult passengers on board along with seven children and 12 crew members, Budi Karya Sumadi, Indonesia s Minister of Transportation, said during a press conference. The plane had been in service for 26 years and officials are investigating debris, potentially from the plane, that has been discovered.
