Preliminary report into Sriwijaya Air crash expected on Feb 10 - Indonesian investigators

By Reuters Staff 1 Min Read JAKARTA, Feb 8 (Reuters) - Indonesia’s air accident investigator expects to release the preliminary report into last month’s deadly crash of a Sriwijaya Air plane on Feb. 10, the agency’s head said on Monday. The report will be uploaded to the National Transportation Safety Committee’s (KNKT) website once available, its chief Soerjanto Tjahjono told Reuters in a text message. The 26-year-old Boeing Co 737-500 jet crashed into the Java Sea shortly after take-off from Jakarta on Jan. 9, killing all 62 people on board. Investigators quickly located and read the plane’s flight data recorder and sent parts of the plane, including the autothrottle system that controls engine power automatically, to the United States and Britain for examination.

JAKARTA, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Indonesia s air accident investigator has sent five components of a crashed Sriwijaya Air jet to the United States and Britain for examination, including the autothrottle that controls engine power automatically, the agency s head said on Tuesday. The 26-year-old Boeing Co 737-500 crashed into the Java Sea shortly after takeoff from Jakarta on Jan. 9, killing all 62 people on board. National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) Chief Soerjanto Tjahjono told Reuters the components had been sent for examination to help find out why an autothrottle parameter had changed. He did not identify the other parts. The plane s flight data recorder (FDR) has been found and read by investigators but a maritime search is going on for the cockpit voice recorder s (CVR) memory unit that Tjahjono said would help explain any human factors behind the crash.
