Indonesia recovers black box from crashed plane A black box from the crashed Indonesian passenger jet has been recovered, a discovery that could offer critical clues to explaining why the plane with 62 people aboard slammed into the sea.
Divers just off the coast of the capital Jakarta hauled the jet s flight data recorder to the surface, as the hunt continues for its cockpit voice recorder.
Indonesian transport minister Budi Karya Sumadi told a live television briefing that the box had been found – after the Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737-500 plunged about 3,000 metres in less than a minute before slamming into the Java Sea on Saturday.

Indonesia s crashed plane likely ruptured when hitting waters: Chief investigator
Head of Indonesia s National Transportation Safety Committee Soerjanto Tjahjono said on Monday that the Sriwijaya Airplane with 62 people on board that crashed into waters off Jakarta on Saturday might break apart when hitting waters. The plane was possibly ruptured when it hit the waters. This indicates that the plane remained intact in the air and it did not explode, Tjahjono told Xinhua.
He said most pieces of the debris are in small parts and not scattered far away. All pieces of the debris are located in one area only, said Tjahjono.
