Smithsonian to fully reopen museums by August on staggered schedule

WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - The Smithsonian has announced it will reopen 10 of its museums throughout the summer, marking a full reopening of the Smithsonian since closing to the public in March 2020.
These locations will open on a staggered schedule from June through August. All museums will reopen with added health and safety measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic and many with reduced hours of operation. Visitors will need to reserve free, timed-entry passes for most locations.

The Smithsonian Institution, which reopened eight of its Washington-area institutions this month, on Wednesday announced a schedule to bring back the rest of its museums closed by the pandemic including two in New York by the end of August.
The Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York will open on June 10. Admission will be free through Oct. 31, but tickets must be reserved online in advance.

The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC announced today that it will reopen eight of its venues to the public on a staggered schedule in May after a hiatus of more than five months. It is the second reopening after the initial closure in March 2020 due to Covid-19: between last July and October, the Smithsonian had previously reopened eight facilities before closing to the public again on 23 November amid a spike in coronavirus cases.
Visitors must reserve free timed-entry passes for all open locations and observe various safety restrictions such as mask-wearing and maintaining social distancing. Tours and events remain suspended.
