Globe and Canadian Centre for Child Protection Unite in Fight vs Online Child Sexual Abuse

Published June 28, 2021, 9:34 AM Globe Globe is leveraging data from the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P) to help the government in its fight against online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC). C3P is a Canadian charity dedicated to the personal safety of children. Its goal is to reduce the sexual abuse and exploitation of children, and prevent child victimization through a number of programs, services, and resources. Globe engaged the services of C3P shortly after an initial meeting hosted by the Department of Justice. The organization, based in Winnipeg, Canada, maintains a comprehensive list of harmful websites through its dedicated team of analysts and a sophisticated web crawler, Project Arachnid. The list will be acquired securely from the servers of C3P, which will then be uploaded into Globe’s current network infrastructure for blocking.

Bill penalizing spams and unwanted calls and texts readied for Lower House approval

Published June 27, 2021, 5:03 PM Sending unwanted calls, text messages and e-mail will be penalized under a bill strongly endorsed by the House Committee on Information and Communications Technology for passage when Congress sessions resume next month. House Bill No. 9608 or the “No Call, No Text and No E-Mail Registration System and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof” has been reported out by the House panel chaired by Tarlac Rep. Victor Yap. The bill consolidated five legislative proposals filed by Reps. Precious Hipolito Castelo (2nd District, QC); Francis Gerald Abaya (1st District, Cavite); Roman Romulo (Lone District, Pasig City) and Yap. Castelo, who filed two bills on the topic, underscored the need to immediately regulate the sending of spam messages, communications for marketing and propaganda gimmicks and other notes that have become obtrusive to one’s privacy.
