CADILLAC â A partnership between a student group at the Wexford-Missaukee Career Technical Center and the Michigan State Police is trying to bring awareness to the community about an important social issue.
That issue is human trafficking and the partnership is hoping it will help to save the life of a person who finds themselves in a terrible situation. Recently, students belonging to the National Technical Honor Society and two troopers from the Cadillac Michigan State Police Post went to several area hotels to see if they would be willing to use soap and make-up removal wrapped with a red band printed with the National Human Trafficking Hotline number.
“It is shocking to consider the size and scope of the tragedy of human trafficking that exists in our world in 2021,” said Bishop Robert Deeley of Portland (Maine).

71 Arrested in Human Trafficking Sting in Florida Ahead of Tampa Super Bowl
A month-long undercover human trafficking sting in Florida by Hillsborough County’s detectives has resulted in 71 arrests, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) announced on Jan. 11, National Human Trafficking Awareness Day.
The operation, known as “Operation Interception,” was created to “combat human trafficking leading up to the Super Bowl coming to Tampa in February 2021,” HCSO Sheriff Chad Chronister told reporters during a press briefing on Jan. 11.
“With less than a month until the big game, our covert operations continue, seeking those who choose to sexually exploit others here in our community,” Chronister said. “Our goal, as the operation name explains, is to ‘intercept’ individuals involved in sexual exploitation before they are able to take advantage of vulnerable individuals, and ultimately, to deter others.”
