Stock photo Prescription drugs (Metro Creative) Drug Take Back Day to be held Saturday Contributed • April 21, 2021 Aroostook County law enforcement agencies will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24.  AROOSTOOK COUNTY, Maine Aroostook County law enforcement agencies will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24.  Anyone who has unused or unwanted prescription drugs is asked to bring them to any local police department for proper disposal. During the last Take Back Day on Oct. 24, Maine police departments collected 40,100 pounds of medications. In Aroostook County, 3,635 pounds of medication were collected.

DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back event to be held Saturday

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is sponsoring its biannual National Drug Take Back event Saturday, April 24 intended for people to bring in unused or expired prescription medication to be disposed of properly.  The event will be held at 1001 River Drive North between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in conjunction with the Montana Highway Patrol and the Cascade County Substance Abuse Prevention Alliance (SAPA).  “Some of them are highly addictive, and so they can get into the wrong hands,” Prevention Program Manager for SAPA Beth Price Morrison said of unused prescription medication. “Your kids or grandkids could stumble upon them. They re not good to flush because they get into our water stream, and believe it or not, they do have an impact.”
