Drug Enforcement Agency holds Nation Drug Take Back Day

Drug take back event planned Friday and Saturday

There are two collection sites available 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. They are:  Harry S. Truman VA Hospital, 800 Hospital Drive, in Columbia; University of Missouri Student Center, 901 Rollins Road in Columbia.  Five collection sites will be available 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. They are:  Ashland Police Department, 601 E. Broadway, in Ashland; Centralia Police Department, 114 S. Rollins, in Centralia; Hallsville Police Department, 202 Highway 124 East, in Hallsville;  Hickman High School, north entrance, at 1104 N. Providence Road, in Columbia;  Rock Bridge High School, north entrance, at 4303 S. Providence Road, in Columbia.  The Boone County Sheriff s Department has joined forces with the Youth Community Coalition and other county law enforcement angencies for this project. The event coincides with the National Drug Take Back event sponsored by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.

During the last Take Back Day on Oct. 24, Maine police departments collected 40,100 pounds of medications. In Aroostook County, 3,635 pounds of medication were collected.

Tennessee American Water, Hamilton County Coalition & Others Announce Upcoming Drug Take Back Tuesday, April 20, 2021 The Bi-Annual National Drug Take Back will be held this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event provides residents the opportunity to rid their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted medications. Residents may simply drive to a Drug Take Back location, where a law enforcement or volunteer wearing masks will take the medications for proper disposal.   The service which is free and anonymous helps to prevent misuse and abuse of medications while protecting local water sources. Collected medications are incinerated, which is the Environmental Protection Agency’s recommended approach for pharmaceutical disposal. Flushing medications down the toilet and throwing them in the trash are discouraged.

DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back event to be held Saturday

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is sponsoring its biannual National Drug Take Back event Saturday, April 24 intended for people to bring in unused or expired prescription medication to be disposed of properly.  The event will be held at 1001 River Drive North between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in conjunction with the Montana Highway Patrol and the Cascade County Substance Abuse Prevention Alliance (SAPA).  “Some of them are highly addictive, and so they can get into the wrong hands,” Prevention Program Manager for SAPA Beth Price Morrison said of unused prescription medication. “Your kids or grandkids could stumble upon them. They re not good to flush because they get into our water stream, and believe it or not, they do have an impact.”
