MHRC opens complaints handling centers in Kasungu using NICE structures

The Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has joined hands with National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) by establishing complaints handling structures in Kasungu District to enable every to speed up process when people want to access justice. MHRC executive secretary Habiba Osman told the media in Kasungu that the complaints handling structures will be across the district using already existence NICE structures. Osman: Executive Secretary for MHRC and former expert on anti violence against women and girls Osman said they decided to take this course following their findings that showed that many Malawians living in remote areas are unable to access justice.

Govt admonish attacks on health workers Government has rebuked the attacks on health workers on false accusations regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, calling such acts criminal and regressive perpetuated by fake news and false conspiracy theories. Speaking during the COVID-19 Daily Briefs on Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) on Wednesday, Minister of Civic Education and National Unity,  Timothy Mtambo urged Malawians to follow the COVID-19 messages from government and health officials to avoid being moved by fake news. “The tendency of attacking health workers is evil and criminal and this should stop. These people are there to help us. We need to listen to, and trust the messages that government is sending through various platforms and ignore the fake news,” Mtambo said.

In its initial stages of the campaign before it rolled out to all the 28 districts, the Ministry target Lilongwe semi-rural and rural areas where 500,000 citizens reached with messages on Covid-19 prevention. The countrywide loud hailing campaign will be implemented in collaboration with the Public Communication Cluster stakeholders from the Ministries of Health, Information, Local Government, Education and the National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Trust.
