Dubai s district cooling saves 650GWh of power in 2020
DUBAI, 2 hours, 59 minutes ago Nearly 650GWh of electricity savings has been recorded by the use of district cooling in Dubai in 2020, which is in excess of the annual savings target of 420GWh, participants heard at a meeting of the Association of District Cooling Operators Dubai. The third meeting of the association that focused on some of the industry s pressing issues, most notably the adoption of innovation and modern technologies in providing the environmentally friendly district cooling services to over 3.3 million population of Dubai. Ahmad bin Shafar, Chairman of the Association and CEO of Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), presided over the meeting in the presence of Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Association s Secretary General, and the Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE).

The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) issued its first district cooling (DC) licence to the Saadiyat Cooling LLC (SCL), which serves Saadiyat Island, including Saadiyat Beach, and Saadiyat Cultural District.
According to the DoE’s statement, reported by state news agency WAM on Thursday, a second license will be issued in the coming weeks to Saadiyat District Cooling LLC (SDCL), which serves New York University Abu Dhabi.
The licenses comes following the DoE’s issuance of the District Cooling Regulations and the District Cooling Applicability Regulations, approved by the Abu Dhabi Government in September 2019, reportedly making Abu Dhabi the first jurisdiction in the Middle East and North Africa region to set up a comprehensive regulatory framework for district cooling.

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Energy has issued its first district cooling licence to Saadiyat Cooling, which serves Saadiyat Island, including Saadiyat Beach and Saadiyat Cultural District.

Saadiyat District Cooling and Saadiyat Cooling provide district cooling to Saadiyat Island, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, NYUAD and Manarat Al Saadiyat. The National Central Cooling Company, also known as Tabreed, said in December that it is buying the two district cooling units on Saadiyat Island from Aldar Properties for Dh963 million ($262m).
