Nigeria needs startups ecosystem to address future challenges ― Osibanjo

The Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, has identified the startup ecosystem as one of the vital tools in finding solutions to Africa’s various challenges.
He affirmed that these challenges will determine if the continent’s future as the next frontier for economic opportunities will fully be realised.
The VP made the assertion on Thursday at the Startup and Developer event organised by Google in Abuja.
Osinbajo, who was represented by Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mallam Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, said the ideas of Start-Ups from inception has always being to impact, noting that the event brought relevant stakeholders together to collaborate and bring something new to the world or new to an industry.

For Nigeria it was a double celebration as she joined the comity of nations to observe the 2021 World Creativity and Innovation Day on April 21. It was noteworthy that Nigeria had substantial grounds to commemorate the day with the funfair it deserves.
Creativity and innovation makes the world go round. Nature recognises innovation as a core aspect of human existence. From the beginning of creation, the combination of these two phenomena have continued to transform the universe from the rustic/traditional to the highly refined/modern today.
In fact, without creativity and innovation, humanity will not be able to achieve any meaningful progress in the course of its existence. The growth of any nation is determined by the levels of creativity and innovation, because these two are the pillars of all human growth and development.
Digital world. Photo; entrepreneurThe Federal Government has said Nigeria’s digital innovation space is making waves across Africa and beyond, as well as driving cutting-edge and emerging technologies to create jobs for the youths.
Citing a report by the Startup Genome and a survey on Nigerian Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs), the government observed that there were about 6,500 MSMEs in the country, some in the digital, with Lagos housing some 700 digital innovation-registered businesses worth over $2 billion. x
Meanwhile, the government has dolled out N10 million as a seed fund to five winners of the 2021 Creativity and Innovation Challenge.
