Think you have a gambling problem? NLCB and Eye on Dependency offer a solution
“Gambling is supposed to be fun,” said Eye on Dependency co-founder Garth St Clair, “but when it becomes a compulsive problem you need help.”
The National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB) agreed with St Clair’s premise. And, today, the two entities officially joined forces with the virtual launch of the NLCB’s Responsible Gaming initiative, which offers support to the punters who lose their heads. The event was hosted by Whitney Husbands.

Trinidad and Tobago poet Desiree Seebaran has won the 2021 Johnson and Amoy Achong Caribbean Writers Prize (JAAWP), the region’s only prize for emerging writers.
In the third and final year of the Prize, dedicated to the advancement of new Caribbean voices, Seebaran won out over the other two shortlisted poets, Akhim Alexis and Jay T. John. All three are Trinbagonians.
The prize offers an opportunity to advance a current work in progress.
In the official announcement during the Winners’ Row event at the 2021 NGC Bocas Lit Fest on Saturday, April 24 Seebaran was announced the winner of the JAAWP by Chief Judge Funso Aiyejina.
Lotto agents threaten national shutdown

Dean Persad, former vice-president of the Electronic Agents Association of TT, said Lotto agents will be writing to Finance Minister Colm Imbert to ask him to consider increasing the commissions paid to them.
He said a petition has been launched to get agents support for a proposed nationwide shutdown of their terminals if their concerns are not addressed. He said some 238 agents have already signed the petition.

THE National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB) is dealing with the challenges of gambling addiction and illegal gambling. NLCB officials updated members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on these and other matters during a virtual meeting on Wednesday.
In response to a question from Foreign and Caricom Affairs Minister Dr Amery Browne, NLCB director Camille Forde said, I can assure you that the NLCB is concerned about gambling addiction. She added the NLCB is seeking to develop a responsible gaming programme. Forde promised to provide details of the programme to the PAC.
