Congress must restore faith with new ethics rules for its members

© Greg Nash There has been no shortage of ethical scandals that involve members of Congress in recent decades, and the last year was no different. Whether improper use of campaign funds, various instances of sexual misconduct, or dubious relationships between candidates and their campaign orbit, the persistence of these kinds of real or perceived acts of corruption is troubling. Perhaps these violations of public trust sheds light on why Congress enjoys such a dismal approval rating from Americans. However, there is one kind of corruption that is a very strong breach of public trust, namely the allegations or proven instances of members of Congress using their positions as federal officials for their own financial benefit. It is so common for members of the House and the Senate to get caught making financial transactions, usually involving stocks, that are at best suspicious and at worst seem like cases of insider trading.

Same pen that urges Buy American put thousands out of work

Same pen that urges Buy American put thousands out of work Tuesday, January 26, 2021  |  Chris Woodward (OneNewsNow.com) Spanish President Biden has signed an executive order directing federal agencies to “Buy American” but that patriotic promise is drawing mixed reviews since thousands of Americans are out of work with the stroke of the President’s pen. The order signed Jan. 25 by Biden ( pictured at right) follows a campaign pledge to tighten federal rules that dictate U.S. government purchases here at home but it comes less than a week after Biden, on his first day in the White House, revoked the permit for adding 800 miles to the massive Keystone XL pipeline that currently runs from Canada to the Gulf Coast.

CEI Joins Coalition Letter Opposed to Most Favored Nation Drug Pricing Final Rule - Competitive Enterprise Institute

CEI Joins Coalition Letter Opposed to Most Favored Nation Drug Pricing Final Rule Introduction On behalf of the undersigned federal and state-based organizations, we write to express our opposition to the interim final rule to implement the Most Favored Nation (MFN) Model under section 1115A of the Social Security Act. We request you withdraw the rule. The rule forces physicians, patients, and providers into a mandatory demonstration under the Obamacare Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) and ties the prices paid for medicines in Medicare Part B to the prices in foreign countries with socialized health care systems. The proposal imports foreign price controls into America’s healthcare system. This will harm medical innovation and the development of new medicines. It will threaten high-paying American manufacturing jobs and do nothing to stop foreign freeloading. Instead, it will move the United States closer to a system of government-controlled healthcare.
