Labor minister wants to complete in six months consultations on calculation formula for minimum salary

Sursa foto: Facebook The Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Raluca Turcan, proposed on Tuesday to the representatives of the National Trade Union Confederation ALFA Cartel to participate in January in the consultations with the social partners on the establishment, within six months, of a mechanism regarding the calculation of the minimum salary increase, according to a release sent by the relevant ministry. The labor minister will establish a timetable for discussions with the social partners for the adoption of a mechanism for a predictable and sustainable increase in the minimum wage, the release mentioned. Raluca Turcan proposed to the representatives of the ALFA Cartel to actively participate in the consultations she will organize with all the social partners from January, so that in the next six months an agreement will be reached on the minimum salary calculation formula.

Sindh s labour leaders to attend Punjab Labour Conference

Karachi December 18, 2020 Trade unions and labour support organisations from Sindh will attend a “Punjab Labour Conference” to show solidarity with workers who have recently organised protests demanding rights for the workers in the province. The Labour Qaumi Movement (LQM), a labour rights group, has been organising the conference in Faisalabad on December 23. In the meeting of the National Labour Council, a joint body of the labour groups, held at the Karachi Press Club, leaders of various trade union and labour bodies agreed to attend the conference to show solidarity with Punjab’s workers. Karamat Ali, executive director of the Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research, presided over the meeting where participants also agreed to form a national level joint body that will initiate a campaign for the workers’ rights.

Labour rights activists call for implementation of minimum wages Karachi December 17, 2020 Speakers at a moot on Wednesday stressed the need for a strong labour movement for the implementation of the labour laws at the time when deepening recession and the Covid-19 outbreak had created huge problems for workers. The moot, titled ‘Dialogue program – Minimum wages and its implementation’, was hosted by the National Trade Union Federation (NTUF) at a local hotel and attended by representatives of workers, trade unions and the provincial labour department. The session was moderated by Home-Based Women Workers Federation (HBWWF) general secretary Zehra Khan. Minimum Wages Board Chairman and Additional Secretary Labour Dr Zahid Hussain said that after the 18th constitutional amendment, an improvement could be observed in the labour laws.
