Head of the Joint Trade Union Movement Ancel Roget has suggested the Prime Minister adopt a similar stance as US President Joe Biden and set up a task force to strengthen and empower workers.
Roget was speaking at a virtual rally to commemorate May Day on Saturday.
On April 26, Biden signed an executive order that focused on promoting labour unions, a move which US labour leaders welcomed. I also called on the public utilities minister to step back in his crease and have some respect for the movement. You (Cabinet members) are the employees of the citizens of TT.

Robinson-Regis accepts labour resignations from NTAC

THE resignations of five labour representatives from the National Tripartite Advisory Council (NTAC) have been accepted by the council s chair, Planning and Development Minister Camille Robinson-Regis.
A statement issued by NTAC on Thursday said that on April 20 Robinson-Regis wrote to Christopher Henry, James Lambert, Michael Annisette, Carlton Gibson and Joseph Remy. They had all resigned from NTAC on March 11.
In informing them that their resignations had been accepted, Robinson-Regis recalled for their benefit her first letter of response, dated March 16, in which the claims they made as the basis for their resignations were denied, and they were told the door was being kept open for their return to NTAC.

Three of TT’s major trade unions held a motorcade throughout Tobago on Sunday, condemning what they believe is the Government’s plan to “decimate the country’s workforce.”
They also spoke out against privatisation, declining standards of living and the non-settlement of outstanding negotiations.
The motorcade, titled Unite To Fight, began at the Store Bay car park, Crown Point and ended at Gardenside, Scarborough.
