National Data Centre to improve efficiency in govt ministries

Government ministries and departments deal with documents that require safety for future purposes. While in the past some of the documents could not be located, with others having to be transported to required destinations, it became a challenge in getting access to relevant data. In a presentation, at the commissioning ceremony the Permanent Secretary for e-Government in the office of the President and Cabinet, Brigadier General Charles Wekwete described the National Data Centre as a One Stop Shop for storing all information. “It is all about allowing cloud computing to provide the virtual services to all ministries and departments rather than each having premise physical areas.”

Govt to revamp road network under NDS-1

Government has set the National Development Strategy-One ((NDS-1) in motion by rehabilitating the country’s roads and aligning them to regional standards. The Zimbabwean government this Tuesday declared all the country’s roads a state of disaster and undertook to implement a massive rehabilitation exercise which includes urban areas. The Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Honourable July Moyo believes it is incumbent upon central government to develop roads as a key economic enabler for national development. “Government has realised the need to improve the country’s road network and it has declared the situation an emergency which should be implemented without delay to speed up meeting national vision.

Cottco, Air Zimbabwe streamlining operations

AIR Zimbabwe and Cottco are some of the country’s parastatals leading the pack in implementing strategic plans to contribute to economic growth and development. The fortunes of the country’s national flag carrier have declined over the past three decades, with the parastatal relying mainly on government bailouts due to huge financial difficulties. However, Air Zimbabwe is on a recovery path after benefiting from the stable economic environment created by the Transitional Stabilisation Programme. The 5-year National Development Strategy One has given the National Airline further impetus with the company’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr Joseph Makonise outlining their strategic plan.

Mash Central farmers expect bumper yield

Farmers in Mashonaland Central have hailed the command agriculture special programme for import substitution, saying prospects for a bumper harvest are high this summer cropping season. The consistent rains being received in most parts of the country have added to the farmers’ prospects of a bumper harvest. A 42-year-old maize producer at Rubberstone farm in Mvurwi, Prince Chipenda who has planted a thriving 100 hectares of the staple crop, says command agriculture has also boosted farmers fortunes at a time the cost of inputs was high. “We planted this maize in November after receiving inputs under the command agriculture program and the crop has exceeded our expectations. This season has turned out to be better than most seasons in recent history.
