HOUSTON, May 4, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Mattress Firm announced today that it has raised over $500,000 for The Ticket to Dream Foundation to support the organization s work with children in foster care across the country. The donation, which includes in-store donations from customers throughout 2021, will help more than 12,000 children in foster care receive essentials such as new clothing, shoes, school supplies, bedding and everyday items.
In addition to the donation, Mattress Firm and Ticket to Dream are partnering in celebration of National Foster Care Month in May to surprise 12 foster families with bedroom makeovers for the children in their care. Parks & Beaches board seeks barrier extension at Scripps Park belvedere
The La Jolla Parks & Beaches board last week unanimously approved drafting a letter to send to the city of San Diego asking that it extend the fence around one of the belvederes at Scripps Park.
“There is a 3-foot-wide opening on either side of the belvedere that leads people down to the bluff,” said trustee Melinda Merryweather. “What happens is … through the years of people pounding down on either side of that belvedere, it has worn the sand and dirt down. Then people get in front of the belvedere to take pictures of people in the belvedere. It’s a huge safety issue.”

Promises2Kids is celebrating its 40th anniversary of providing hope, support and opportunities for San Diego foster children, and has partnered up with 23 local restaurants to help support the 3,000 children in foster care. The campaign will run throughout the month of May, in celebration of National Foster Care Month.
It is finally time to get out and patronize restaurants that have been hit hard due to the Covid-19 pandemic. By making a commitment to visit local restaurants, the community will also be supporting San Diego foster children.
