Luetje: Western Iowa families can make life-changing impact

Every May, LSI Foster Care and Adoption celebrates National Foster Care Month. It’s a time to lift up and thank the dedicated foster families who are wrapping care around Iowa kids. Each year, we see hundreds of parents attend trainings and classes and take the exciting step of becoming licensed foster families for children in need of a temporary home. They always go above and beyond to support the kids in their care but over the last year, they have shown themselves to be heroes in a time of crisis. Western Iowa children were referred into foster care 538 times last year. In 273 of those instances, children needed a home that also could care for their siblings, and 136 referrals involved a child over the age of 13.
