NWS: Heavier Snow in Northern Indiana, Less Snow in Central and Southern Indiana
STATEWIDE–Snow, freezing rain, and sleet are all winter weather elements that will be moving across much of Indiana over the next few days.
The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana is expecting that weather to affect the commute Monday afternoon and evening, which will linger into Tuesday morning.
“We’ll have a period of snow and freezing drizzle moving into the area tonight. Snowfall amounts in the Fort Wayne area are not going to be very much, probably less than an inch. In South Bend, there will be a little bit more snow. We’re looking at about 2-4 inches in that area with some brief, freezing rain,” said Amos Dodson, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana.

NWS: More Snow Expected, Winter Weather Advisory Issued
INDIANAPOLIS A winter weather advisory has been issued for much of central Indiana beginning at 7 pm Monday and will last until 7 am Tuesday, said the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
“As we go into (Monday night), a disturbance is going to move through the southern portion of central Indiana. We’re expecting that to bring with it another round of light accumulating snowfall,” said Joe Nield, a meteorologist with NWS Indianapolis. “It will be south of the Terre Haute to Greensburg line. That’s where the advisory is in effect. We could see some light accumulations all the way up to the Indy metro area, but that could be less than an inch.”
NWS: Snow Could Be Heavy at Times, Becomes Lighter During Weekend
INDIANAPOLIS–Some of the snow likely to fall across Indiana Friday could be heavy at times, says the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.
“We expect scattered snow to develop, especially as we get into the mid-day hours and onward,” said Joe Nield, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. “We could see some fairly intense snow showers, even some snow squalls.”
A snow squall is a sudden moderate to heavy snowfall that can bring blowing snow and strong, gusty surface winds.
“Basically the entire central Indiana area is under threat for these snow showers. We could see some light accumulations as a result of them, but it’s probably not going to be very consistent from spot to spot,” said Nield. “One area may get intense snow showers or squalls and then you may go down the road and there may be very little snow.”
