A potentially stormy Friday is possible ahead of a beautiful weekend here in Deep East Texas.
The National Weather Service in Lake Charles says there ll be rain and thunderstorms on Friday and Friday evening, followed by a sunny Saturday and Sunday with temperatures in the low 80âs.
The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has placed this region under a slight risk of a severe weather outbreak, including the potential for damaging wind and hail, along with isolated tornadoes.

Friday - A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Some of the storms could be severe. High near 74. Southeast wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Several bands of thunderstorms passed through Tyler, Jasper and Newton Counties on Friday evening producing high winds and heavy rains.
Here at KJAS on the northeast side of Jasper, winds as high as 33 miles per hour were recorded and a total of 3.3 inches of rainfall fell within just three hours resulting in major flooding of some streets and thoroughfares.
At times the National Weather Service in Lake Charles issued tornado warnings in all three counties before the weather passed to the northeast and into Louisiana.
Electrical power to a large area of north Jasper County was knocked out for some time and there were reports of power outages in other areas as well.
The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has provided an update on tomorrow s severe weather risk: They say all modes of severe weather will be possible across our forecast area, with the largest threat expected through the afternoon and overnight hours. The majority of the forecast area is under a slight risk of severe weather, while St. Martin, St. Mary, and parts of Iberia and Vermillion Parishes are under a marginal risk.

One person was killed and seven injured after at least one tornado touched down in St. Landry Parish.
A tornado hit the parish at about 2:15 a.m. Saturday as severe weather rolled across the state, according to a release from St. Landry Parish Director of Emergency Preparedness Van Reed.
“All of a sudden we were spinning like the house in the Wizard of Oz, Marquitha Qubedeaux of Palmetto said. Qubedeaux, Robert Reed and three children ages 14, 10 and 8 were in the home when the tornado hit.
Qubedeaux said an alarm panel in the home went off about 1 a.m., but they went back to bed. After 2 a.m. she was knocked off the bed and was on her hands and knees on the floor while the house was spinning.
