As flurries fell Sunday morning, Des Moines began preparing for its next winter storm and up to a foot of snow forecasted for Monday afternoon.
The Des Moines International Airport got 0.4 inches, Waterloo got 2.1 inches and Cedar Rapids got about 2.5 inches from a light storm that hit Iowa Saturday. But Saturday s light snow is a mere prelude for the major winter storm expected to come Monday.
The south half of the state, including Des Moines, Ottumwa, Atlantic, Council Bluffs and Lamoni, could get 6 to 13 inches of snow Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Des Moines. Osceola is expected to get 10 to 13 inches of snow on Monday. Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Davenport could get 5 to 10 inches. Carroll, Ames and Waterloo could all get 1 to 9 inches.
