Wet Christmas: NWS issues flood watch for eastern Pennsylvania
With wind and heavy rain expected Thursday into Friday, the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for an area that includes all of eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey.
Monroe, Pike and Wayne counties could receive 2 to 3 inches of rain. The new precipitation, combined with melting snow in warm temperatures, could push small streams, and possibly larger rivers, out of their banks.
In the Lehigh Valley, 1 to 2 inches of rain may fall tonight. The Delaware River corridor, including all access points within the national recreation area, is closed to all users in anticipation of a swift rise in water levels over the next 36 hours, the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area announced Thursday afternoon.

Road crews in Hazleton had more than snow-covered roads to navigate Thursday afternoon as they continued working to reopen streets after a storm dumped an estimated 12 to 18 inches of snow throughout Luzerne County overnight Wednesday.
Director of Public Works Frank Vito said that crews had just about all streets in the city cleared of snow as of Thursday afternoon, even though efforts were hampered by motorists who ignored snow-parking regulations and numerous people were spotted throwing snow back onto streets.
âThe equipment held up, the guys held up and it was long hours, but we have it pretty much in order now,â Vito said.
